Since 2006
Welch & Wandsworth is a California-licensed general contracting firm, led by Jason Welch and Benjamin M. Davies. One license, held by the firm, and you can check it yourself in about a minute.
We take only a few homes at a time. We have kept the firm small since 2006. If there were twelve jobs running, one of us couldn’t be standing on yours.
It also means we’re sometimes not free when you need to start. If that’s the case we’ll tell you early, rather than take the job and stretch it thin. This isn’t the right firm for everybody, and we’d rather say so at the beginning than prove it at the end.
Who you get
Jason spent more than ten years in commercial redevelopment and shop fitting before moving into residential construction. Benjamin came through cabinetry, kitchens and baths into full residential work. They have been partners since 2006. Today, Jason leads new construction and site work, while Benjamin leads interiors and finish work.

On the lot with you before a line is drawn. Structure, site, framing, and everything that has to be right before anything can be made beautiful.

Cabinetry, tile, trim and hardware. The details you live with every day, taken as seriously as the ones holding the house up.

Jason and Benjamin lead every project themselves. We take only a few homes at a time, so both stay directly involved from the first walk onward.
What we are not
Welch & Wandsworth is a general contractor. We don’t sell you the drawings and then build them. If you already have an architect you trust, that relationship is yours and it stays yours. We’ll build to their drawings and we won’t try to move the work in house.
If you don’t have one yet, we’ll tell you who we’ve built well with in the greater Orange County and Los Angeles area. You’d hire them, not us.
Benjamin does interior design, and that is a service you can take or leave. Nothing about the way we work requires you to buy the drawings from the people who build them. Ask every builder you’re talking to the same question. The answer is usually in the contract.
From an architect we build for
"We have had the opportunity to work with Jason and Ben on two residential projects. Their team is enjoyable to collaborate with, and we have appreciated the attention they bring to the finish work."

Fire rebuild
Wildfire building standards, Title 24 Part 7 and the 2022 California Building Code, are a working part of how we detail a house. We have built the assemblies these standards are written about: standing seam roofing, ignition resistant siding, boxed and vented soffits, tempered glazing.
We haven’t completed an Altadena rebuild, and we say so plainly on the page where we talk about it. See the Altadena fire rebuild page, including where a rebuild actually gets filed and what the County has waived.
Jason and Benjamin come and look at the job with you together, before anyone talks about a number. Nothing is quoted until we have stood in it.
